Bumi Khatulistiwa Cultural Festival

Bumi Katulistiwa FestivalIf you are in Pontianak in West Kalimantan, Indonesia between the dates of March 21-23, then we suggest you check out the Bumi Khatulistiwa Cultural Festival. This festival is held twice a year to commemorate the natural phenomenon of the city of Pontianak which lies right on the imaginary Equator line. Events during the Bumi Khatulistiwa Cultural Festival will be traditional West Kalimantan art, tourism and cultural exhibition and traditional sport competitions.

Twice a year, the spectacular Vernal Equinox (March 21st - 23rd) and the Autumnal Equinox (September 21st - 23rd) make the Equatorial Monument in Pontianak one of the most popular places on earth to witness this wonder of nature.
The city prides itself on its art and cultural life, superbly equipped to take advantage of its surrounding. At night, it lights up with nightclubs, cafes, bars, and seafood restaurants. Its facilities include an international airport and seaport and a stunning line up of malls, supermarkets, luxury and mid-range hotels and restaurants.
Being directly on Borneo’s longest river, Pontianak is a waterfront city on the confluence of the Kapuas and Landak rivers. City ferries and bridges link the city centre with the riverside suburbs of Siantan and Kampung Beting, where charming interlinked wooden walkways provide a unique way of getting round and seeing the oldest part of the city.
